During the warm up, after some extensive ice formation on my backyard ponds, I looked out and saw some interesting lines zig-zagging across the pond. A closer investigation revealed that the barely above freezing temperatures had produced melting and puddling in the low spots in the ice without melting the higher/thicker lines of ice. The leaves are hardy water lily leaves plus a fallen oak leaf.
